Summary

The Health, Safety and Environmental Team at Torus  deal with a wide audience of managers, employees, contractors, customers and local authorities seeking advice, training and support in every area of the business and our expectation is that you will be a front line response when managers and employees are seeking that support.

This is an important role in which you will:

  • Assist in the administration and development of health, safety and environmental procedures and to ensure the monitoring and control of the health and safety management systems across the group
  • Be proactive and willing to learn and listen in order to progress with training and experience required through work-based learning activities
  • Achieve a relevant Health & Safety qualification up to NVQ Level 3 standard.
  • To effectively communicate with other members of the team, providing support to colleagues and managers in the execution of work
  • To assist with general Health and Safety enquiries and the investigation of concerns raised by employees or members of the public, where appropriate, and take action accordingly
  • To develop specialist knowledge of high-risk activities undertaken by operatives and learn to advise on appropriateness of Health and Safety arrangements
  • To assist in the preparation and updating of Health, Safety and Welfare policies and guidance notes, the Health and Safety Intranet, risk assessments and other appropriate documentation
  • Be based at our head office in Liverpool, but will be required to work across our offices in Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have GCSE (or equivalent) Level 4 or above in English and Mathematics.
  • Successfully pass a pre-entry assessment via the relevant provider which indicates your ability to complete a relevant health and safety qualification up to NVQ Level 3 standard. (pre-assessment day 23/08/19)

You will receive training and support on a range of health and safety topics. We do need someone interested in using and developing their skills in communication, data management and particularly IT.

Skills

  • Evidence of and commitment to continual professional and personal development
  • High levels of IT literacy and competency in using IT devices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a willingness to develop a range of communications skills
  • Excellent communications skills, specifically the ability to use a variety of styles and skills to effectively communicate information to colleagues and customers

Qualifications

An opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Apprentice to join the team. The successful candidate will be based in one of our three heartlands of Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington. You may be required to work at our sites across Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales and could be based from satellite offices in one of those areas.
