The apprentice will receive guidance and training to provide high quality ICT support and customer service to all school ICT end users, supporting the day to day housekeeping of systems and devices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the ICT Network Manager/ ICT Technician (or equivalent) in the day to day running of the school computer network
  • Set up user accounts, implementing password changes and resolving work area problems (this includes detecting illegal access, lost passwords, bans)
  • Keep record of all users including the management of laptop loans
  • Resolve printing problems - both hardware and software determining and rectifying the cause of faults
  • Responding to requests to ban students – implementing the ban, removing their access, liaising with staff and managing all resulting paperwork
  • Dealing with user problems as and when they occur – logging on access, password changes, software problems, internet access, print credits, advice on using software etc
  • Hardware  -  routine checking, fault finding and rectifying, general maintenance -  base unit, monitors, mice, keyboards, printers, network cabling and switch fault diagnosis and rectification etc. This may involve replacement, minor repairs or organising third party repairers, dependent on fault.  Includes cleaning of mice, keyboards and screens on a regular basis
  • Replace and supply of peripherals and consumables stock control of consumables and hardware ordering, distribution and paperwork for departments
  • Rebuild computers following errors
  • Build new workstations and laptops and add them to the network
  • Assist with laptop hardware and software problems when applicable
  • Assist and train students and staff in the use of the network when applicable
  • Update records and documentation as required
  • Advise and assist in the preparation of materials requiring a computer
  • Provide assistance with the movement and setting up of ICT and other AV equipment e.g. projectors and screens for presentations
  • Assist the ICT Technician in all IT related projects
  • Communicate with the Trust, LA, outside agencies, parents and the local community and to make contact with any other individuals who have business with the school
  • Participate in training and development activities and programmes and attend and participate in meetings as required
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection reporting all concerns to the appropriate people
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the principal

Working week

8am-4pm Monday-Friday / 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays (to be taken during school holidays)
